With so much to do in Arcadia Valley it might be hard to find a place to start. We crafted some day trips, according to activities, to set you off in the right direction. Select a trip that sounds fun to you and head out on an adventure! 

Pack a picnic lunch and head out on an adventure that suits everyone. You won't believe your eyes when you arrive at each park! 

 

Elephant Rocks:

-Walk the 1-mile paved trail 

-Climb over, under, and in between the boulders

-Rock-climb (like with equipment)

-See the ruins of an old railroad engine house

-Picnic/grill out

Johnson's Shut-ins:

-Swim in the shut-ins

-Hike any of the many trails

-Learn at the Visitor's Center

-Picnic

Taum Sauk Mountain:

-Drive-up overlook with educational map

-Walk the paved trail to the highest point in the state!

-Hike the rugged 3-mile loop on the OT

-Hike the rugged 13-mile section to Johnson's Shut-Ins 

-Climb the lookout tower and see for miles

Visit the quaint Village of Caledonia to shop until you drop and step back in time in a 100-year-old candy shop! 

Caledonia:

-Pull off Hwy 21 to admire the expansive view of Buford Mountain

-Slip into a bygone era at Old Village Mercantile.

-Browse around unique boutiques, antique and vintage shops 

-Have lunch, apps or a glass of wine

-Take in the sweeping views along Hwy 21

You can create your own adventure and begin or end your day on Main Street in Ironton. Fuel up at Arcadia Valley Roasting Co., browse around the award-winning Arcadia Valley Soap Co., shop in the Country Bouquet and more! 

Millstream Garden Conservation Area:

-Walk the 1-mile paved trail to Cat's Paw overlook to get a birds-eye view of the breathtaking St. Francois River.

-Grab a boulder and sit with the scenery

-Continue hiking on unpaved hiking trails

Silver Mines Recreation Area:

-Hike the 2-mile-long Silver Mines Trail

-Admire the geologic history

-Picnic

-Bird watch

-Notice that you're standing at a historic mining site

Plan your float down the crystal-clear Black River. Jeff's Canoe Rental will set you up with the vessel of your choice, shuttle you upriver and you'll float back to Hwy K Bridge. You can also spend the day along the shores of the Black River, under K Bridge, swimming and fishing while you soak up every ounce of summer fun there is.

Arcadia Valley is rich with history. Born from long extinct volcanoes, its unique geologic origin is one of the features that makes the valley so special. 

One of the largest and most hard-fought battles waged on the state’s soil—the Battle of Pilot Knob happened right here!  All will enjoy this humbling attraction.
